We aren't owed these premium things because a creator is allowed to decide how they release their content. It's all purely optional and honestly quite useless, save for fantasias, but really, changing your character appearances are useless. I know I shouldn't bite the bait, but the best way it was explained to me back when I had this mindset was that there is nothing on the cash shop that you need to advance in the game. And if it's further into the expansion, you still need to gear yourself even once you hit level cap. If it's the start of a new expansion it's not going to give you any kind of edge in terms of raiding because they don't even add the story mode version of the 8 person raid until a good month into the expansion, and savage doesn't come out until a month after that, in order to give everyone a fair chance at leveling up at their own pace (instead of feeling the need to rush for the sake of raiding) and gearing before the raids are released. You still have to level up 10 levels before you even hit endgame. At best it puts you on the same level as people who had been playing the game since the previous expansion, except they probably have better gear than you do. And those books do exactly that: they dump you off at the beginning of the most recent expansion, with some un-upgraded tome gear.īeing able to skip to level 60, or presumably level 70 once ShB releases, doesn't give you an edge over players who level up normally. The level skips were implemented due to high demand because people first starting the game wanted to be able to start on whatever the newest expansion was right away without having to play through 2+ expansions worth of content first. This isn't even touching on things like the exp boost items, the item that increases the amount of loot you get from monsters, the rewards you get from quests and increases your chances of getting rare drops from monsters, or the fact that you can purchase high quality equipment and consumables from the cash shop.īy comparison, pretty much everything in the Mogstation is purely cosmetic and there isn't a single thing in there that gives you any kind of an edge in the game over someone who has never touched the cash shop in their life. There's also a more expensive one that combines the two services together. There's also one for storage that you can stack up to three times. This is the description of one of the 3 30/90 day premium services available, and when converted from yen to us currency (or rather from the game's cash shop currency to capcom's cash shop currency to yen to US currency), it actually comes to a little over $15 for 30 days, a little over $40 for 90 days, which is about the same or more than a FFXIV subscription, depending on your subscription type. The fact that you think this is in any way a fair comparison is kind of amazing and hilarious.įor one thing, compared to Dragon's Dogama, FFXIV has servers on 3 different continents and is in 4 different languages, which already multiplies the costs of running FFXIV compared to Dragons Dogma signficantly.įor another, if you're going to try and compare FFXIV to a free to play MMO and act like the free to play is somehow superior, you should probably make sure that it's not one that has a pay to win cash shop and premium services.
